The Brandon Lions Club will be upgrading playground
equipment and installing a new playground in Brandon the weekend of June 9-10, 2012. The new playground is the culmination of a
two year project the Lions have been working on to upgrade playgrounds
throughout Brandon.
Last summer the Lions finished phase one of the project with
the construction of a new shelter in Lions
Park. The playground work includes improvements on
the existing Lions
Park playground and the
assembly of a new playground in the Deere Run development on the northeast side
of town (on Hayes Avenue
between 5th & 6th Streets).
The Lions invite members of the community to come and be
involved with the installation of the new equipment starting at 9am on Saturday
June 9 at both sites. Volunteers will
also be needed to install the wood chips at the Deere Run location on Sunday
June 10 at 2pm.
“The playground will be great for the community,” said Brandon
Lions President Jim Ondracek. “The kids
will really enjoy the new park and the improvements to Lions Park. This project shows the Lions’ continuing
commitment to Brandon.”
The Lions would like to thank the City of Brandon and the community for their support
of the project. “We owe our donors a
huge thank you, especially our major contributors including the Otto Bremer
Foundation, the Brandon Firemen's Relief Fund, and Tastefully Simple,” said Tessa Dutcher of the Brandon Lions. “Without
the support of all these people this project would still be on the drawing
board.”
Contributions are still being accepted to cover the final
stages of the park project. Checks can
be sent to the Brandon Lions at PO
Box 187, Brandon, MN 56315. Tax deductible donations should be made payable
to the Brandon Community Foundation.
The Lions will
be moving the swing set, replacing the slide and adding new equipment at
Lions Park.
Excavation has begun on the Deere Run site for the new
playground.
